RFC 2507 IP Header Compression

Interested in better bandwidth utilization? IP connection often introduces a high overhead that consumes the bandwidth of the connection. Mitigate IP overhead using GateHouse RFC 2507 Header Compression (IPHC).

As applications and solutions become increasingly bandwidth consuming, optimizing the utilization of bandwidth becomes increasingly more valuable and necessary.

Used across several products deployed world-wide, the GateHouse IP Header Compression (IPHC) implementation greatly increases the bandwidth utilization of IP connections with a high header to payload ratio. Compliant to the RFC 2507 Internet standard, it reduces the protocol overhead of IP communication by up to 90% by compressing the packet headers of the TCP, UDP, and IP protocols to leave out unnecessary information.

For applications, such as, Voice over IP, instant messaging, or media streaming, where the protocol overhead often accounts for 50% of the total bandwidth usage, header compression has a substantial impact on the performance of an internet connection – even more so for metered connections.

Implemented as a simple C++ library, the IPHC implementation is highly portable and can be embedded into almost any platform. It has over 10 years of usage in more than 20 different types of satellite terminals.
