GateHouse Telecom Eyes SmallSat Market

In a bid to move in on the smallsat market, the Danish satcom test tool and waveforms leader, GateHouse Telecom, has appointed the manufacturer of nano satellite solutions, GomSpace’s, former Head of Systems Engineering, Per Koch, 49, as the company’s new business developer. Per Koch will be responsible for developing new solutions and services for small satellites.

“For over two decades, GateHouse Telecom has been a leading supplier of waveforms and test tools for Inmarsat’s BGAN and Global Xpress networks. But, like other companies in the satcom terminal industry, we are adjusting our business strategy to the market, and we see great potential in the LEO satellite industry,” Thomas Jensen, director of GateHouse Telecom, said.

“We believe our extensive experience with satellite networks is applicable within small satellite missions and we see multiple ways to apply our knowledge and experience in the market. That is why we have brought in Per, who will help us utilize our knowledge to develop new solutions for LEO satellites and expand our business into the growing smallsat market.”

Per Koch has had a distinguished career with over 20 years in the mobile and space industries including leadership roles at RTX and BAE Systems. For the past three years, Per Koch has worked as a Project Manager and Head of Systems Engineering at GomSpace, where he has managed several smallsat missions and has completed several projects funded by the European Space Agency.

“I am very excited to join GateHouse Telecom as the company aims for the smallsat market. I was surprised by the knowledge of GateHouse Telecom’s satcom specialists, who, I believe, can also be a great resource in developing solutions for small satellites as well,” Per Koch said.
